These captivating images are by figurative painter Harry Paul Ally. Distorted and exaggerated, each painting pierces the soul in search of something.... a memory, a question, an answer? Using various media, natural materials like clay, dry pigments and oils, acrylics and others, his works are filled with depth, and are unmistakeably earthly. The aspect of a moment is captured in each image. A Space graced with one of these compositions will invite you to sit and reflect on the nature of the human spirit.

Very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt's not my taste but that's the cool thing about art, it's different for everyone and that is one of the things that makes all our homes unique!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Maria! Art is so subjective. This is definitely a conversation starter!
ReplyDeleteThese earthy pieces have a particular appeal for me. I've long since quit fighting my innate love for earth tones in art and design.
ReplyDeleteThe subject matter is poignant, a bit sad, evocative.
Thank you for sharing these.
Wow! I love them!
ReplyDeleteThe artist is new to me, I look forward to seeing more. His work is captivating and very engaging, it awakens a great desire in me to see more, know more. I love his use of color, perhaps to express a feeling? They are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI am not familiar with the work of this artist - thank you for the introduction! I just went back to look at my post, and I think you are right about this artist's work being in my post today! Great eye!
ReplyDeleteI was immediately drawn to these images I love the obscurity and earth tones.. They feel old and weathered, like there once was some great picture beneath it.. and I contemplate what that picture was.. So interesting.

I am so glad I found one installed, you can see it on Things that Inspires post, http://freshpalette.blogspot.com/2009/06/light-on-two-sides.html
I think they're interesting. Although they're human figures, depending on how you look at them, they could be something else.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure people see the images differently. For example, I see a guy playing the guitar in the 5th picture (Figure 66). Could be a fun party game, guessing who's in the painting!! :-)

They're so complex and ethereal. I find them sort of soothing but a little tortured. Funny how they're so simple but so powerful. Thanks for turning us on to this artist.
ReplyDeleteEach is filled with such emotion. They remind me of German Expressionism. Very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI find them kind of unsettling, but I like them for that. Any art that can get a visceral reaction out of me is doing its job. Figure 81 in particular really grabs me. Where'd you find this guy? It's great stuff.
ReplyDeleteI love them!! I'm taking a mixed media class right now, so it's very timely. Thanks for the inspirtation :)
ReplyDeleteThis is my art professor for the last 5 years! Amazing srtist and intriguing man!
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know Anon. His work is brilliant and how wonderful to be one of his students.
