Crate and Barrel Pre Party

Crate and Barrel had a pre party last night for the Grand Opening of their Square One location.  It's the first free standing building for us Canadians and is designed true to Crate and Barrel's Standards.   The place was packed with people, the line ups were huge. A portion of the proceeds from last night and the next few days are going towards the Credit valley Hospital.
Naturally Fall colours are in full season, with wonderful warm tones, rusty reds and plums and organic woods.  But I absolutely loved the display of blue and green hand blown glass, the tear shaped Samara Vase is a fave.  My BFF Jenna, loved this collection of plaid dishes, and I have to agree they are very festive..  Christmas was in full swing too, with warm whites, silver and gold..

(From Left) Vanessa, Christine, Cathy Miller, Moi, and Jenna

It's always great to bump into bloggers.   I spotted Christine (aka GlamaMama) from Decor by Christine, and Vanessa of Decor Happy.  We had a great chat with Cathy Miller (aka Queen Bee of Media at C and B Canada) about the store, and all the exciting things happening here.  CB2 is on it's way, arriving in the Spring, with modern and edgy affordable pieces.  That will certainly be a fun stop in the city.

European Escapes: La Bastide de Marie

This heavenly escape, La Bastide de Marie, is located in Menerbes, France of the Provence Region.  It is the location of the photo shoot Marion Cotillard was featured in for July Vogue.  If you dare to explore this place, I guarantee you will be transported to a place of peace and tranquility.  The 18th century building is set upon gardens of lilac lavender, olive and lemon trees.  Surrounded by 24 hectares of vineyards, It invites you to experience the true essence of Provence.

Each room is designed in balance with it's surrounding nature.   Warm tones of spring summer and fall, antiques, and plenty of wrought iron beds, tables and chairs add to the character and charm.  Canopy beds with soft floral bedding and exposed stone walls are absolutely breathtaking.  The Main Lounge ( with Fireplace) offers exceptional views of the vineyards.  Rates range fro 450 to 780 Euros per person per night, and include 3 exquisite meals, aperitifs and regional wines. Did I mention they have a spa?  Yes.  A full service indoor outdoor spa.  Now all we have to do it get there!

Perfect Pictures

I stumbled across this incredible home, while browsing one of my fave blogs, Habitually Chic.  The home belongs to a popular Fashion Designer from Denmark, named Malene Birger.  I hadn't heard of her, but popped over to her site to find equally beautiful clothing.  This is the one of the most comfortable homes I have seen, and yet it has all the sophistication I expect.  It is the perfect place to fuel a creative mind.   The paired down style, vintage and antique pieces, lots of white that is warmed by wood tones, and of course a fabulous display of artwork.  How beautiful are the shoes ( to the left) displayed as art?  I'll post on some of her clothing soon as well.

Magnificent Moments

I love stumbling across fabulous pieces of artwork, and where else to do such a thing, but at a local gallery.  I was captivated by these pieces displayed by  local artist, Ian Ridpath because of the fabulous use of colour.  There are moments when the seasons change that are so fleeting.  The landscape changes from hour to hour.  And I love that these images capture those magnificent moments.  It's the hints of orange or red, and the depth of the green or yellow that make them feel so fleeting.

For more information on Ian Ridpath, you can find it here at his personal site.

Simple Farmhouse

This beautiful home is located on thousands of acres of land that is the site of a marvelous pear orchard.  It is where architect Paul Wiseman group up, and where he collaborated with others to create this home for his childhood friend.  It was featured in AD in June 2007 and remains one of my favourite modern buildings.

I love that this vernacular structure, with it's concrete floors, white walls and ridiculously high ceilings, manages to feel warm and inviting.  An open redwood kitchen sets the tone for the space, with rich woods repeating throughout in furnishings and window trims.  Natural fibre floors, and simple linens, keep the relaxed comfort of a traditional farmhouse.  The master suite is perhaps one of my favourite rooms, with a full wall of built in shelves to house a collection of great reads as well as glass pears, and other interesting objects.

It's a Date!

In case you haven't heard, we have a date for our Canadian Blogger Meet up in Toronto.  It's the evening of Nov 20th.  We would love to see you there, so visit the Blog we created for the evening out, and let us know that you will be there.   I can't wait !!

Pretty Portrait of Style

These 2 perfectly pink dresses are from Nina Ricci.
It's the kind of dress you can enjoy for years, especially the pale pink below..
I just loved this spread of Marion Cotillard in July Vogue. She is just lovely, with her vintage french style. She can make a sophisticated dress, look easy and natural, and make a natural look high glam and sophisticated.   The backdrop for this shoot, photographed by Mario Testino, is in a luxury hotel in the countryside of southern France. You'll see more of this amazing property next week, when I feature in in European Escapes.
